Navy blue sinamay small hat with a crinoline knot designed to be worn to either the left or right of the head.
I have created this beautifully elegant hat from vegan-friendly sinamay. I have used the traditional millinery technique of hand-blocking to mould the classic navy blue sinamay. This creates the sloped beret shaped base of the hat.
Delicate crinoline has been used to make a flowing knot that adorns the top of the hat. This modern knot is simple, yet elegant and will work with floral, geometric or abstract prints. The swirling knot also adds an element of height and drama to the design.
I have chosen to leave the hat unlined. Instead, I have simply finished the inside with a co-ordinating navy blue petersham ribbon.
This design is part of my Pick and Mix collection. Significantly, this collection is designed to be as versatile as possible. Each design allows for variations to colour, shape of hat, as well as the option to personalise the decoration with extra features. For example, this hat could be made in complimenting shades of sinamay and crinoline for a two-tone look.
Dimensions of Hat
- Width: approximately 13cm (5.5 inches)
- Length: approximately 15cm (6 inches)
- Height: approximately 5 cm (2 inches)
The knot adds approximately 7cm (2.5 inches) to the height of the design.
How to Wear this Hat
I have designed this small hat with a crinoline knot to be worn to either side of the head, at a slight angle towards the face.
A black adjustable elastic will be fitted depending on your chosen position. This is used to secure the piece in place. The elastic is thin enough to be hidden in your hair, thereby creating the illusion that the hat is magically perched on the head.
Where to Wear this Hat
I created this navy blue sinamay hat with formal spring and summer events in mind, however it is a great all rounder. It would be perfect for a race day meet or a wedding. The lightweight and breathable sinamay is perfect for both indoor and outdoor events.
Meanwhile, this classic shade of blue colour can be paired with a variety of seasonal palettes. The abstract knot is a timeless and versatile style of decoration and will work with all kinds of printed fabrics.
Gifting Information
Your hat will be sent in an white square hat box. This will be carefully packed with acid free tissue paper, and finished with a pink satin ribbon. Storing your hat in this tissue-filled box will keep it in tip top condition for many years to come.
Although I don’t offer gift wrap for these designs, I can add a gift message card if you are gifting from a distance.

Looking For Something a Little Different?
This design also lends itself to being recreated in a combination of colours.
You could chose to have a two-tone knot, similar to my headband designs or select different colours for the hat and the knot.
