Ivory sinamay half hat with black silk abaca loops and sprays of coque feathers.
I have created this beautifully elegant hat from sinamay. I have used the traditional millinery technique of hand-blocking to mould the classic ivory sinamay. This creates the tear drop shaped base of the hat.
Silk abaca fabric has been used to make a set of loops which adorn the top of the hat. These loops are simple, yet elegant and will work with floral, geometric or abstract prints. The loops also add an element of height and drama to the design.
Finally, sprays of black coque feathers have been added for extra texture and interest. These diamond shaped feathers have been cut by hand and will flutter with a breeze.
I have chosen to leave the hat unlined. Instead, I have simply finished the inside with a matching ivory petersham ribbon.
This design is part of my Pick and Mix collection. Significantly, this collection is designed to be as versatile as possible. Each design allows for variations to colour, shape of hat, as well as the option to personalise the decoration with extra features.
For example, feathers could easily be removed for a more pared down look.
Dimensions of Hat
- Width (at widest point): approximately 12cm (4.75 inches)
- Length: approximately 24cm (9.5 inches)
- Height: approximately 2cm (0.75 inches)
The loops add approximately 4cm (1.5 inches) to the height of the design.
How to Wear this Hat
I have designed this small hat with loops to be worn to either side of the head, at a slight angle towards the face.
A black adjustable elastic is used to secure the piece in place. The elastic is thin enough to be hidden in your hair, thereby creating the illusion that the hat is magically perched on the head.
Where to Wear this Hat
I created this ivory and black hat with formal spring and summer events in mind, however it is a great all rounder. It would be perfect for a race day meet or a wedding. The lightweight and breathable sinamay is perfect for both indoor and outdoor events.
Meanwhile, these staple colours can be paired with a variety of seasonal palettes. The classic loops are a timeless and versatile style of decoration and will work with all kinds of printed fabrics.
Gifting Information
Your hat will be sent in an ivory square hat box. This will be carefully packed with acid free tissue paper, and finished with a pink satin ribbon. Storing your hat in this tissue-filled box will keep it in tip top condition for many years to come.
Although I don’t offer gift wrap for these designs, I can add a gift message card if you are gifting from a distance.
