Green straw hat with a curls and a pair of arrow cut feathers.
I have created this beautifully elegant hat from reclaimed vintage straw. I have used the traditional millinery technique of hand-blocking to mould the pale green straw and creating a sloped beret shaped base of the hat.
Meanwhile I have used the same straw to make a trio of handmade curls which adorn the top of the hat. These curls, combined with the pair of hand cut feathers add height and drama.
I have chosen to leave the hat unlined. Instead, I have simply finished the inside with an ivory petersham ribbon.
Dimensions of Hat
- Width: approximately 13cm (5.5 inches)
- Length: approximately 15cm (6 inches)
- Height: approximately 5 cm (2 inches)
The curls add approximately 2.5cm (1 inch) to the height of the design.
The feathers add approximately 7.5cm (3 inches) to the height of the hat.
How to Wear this Hat
I have designed this small straw hat to be worn to the right of the head, at a slight angle towards the face. I have also fitted the hat with a black adjustable elastic, which is used to secure the piece in place. This elastic is thin enough to be hidden in your hair, thereby creating the illusion that the hat is magically perched on the head.
Where to Wear this Hat
I created this hat with formal spring and summer events in mind. It would be perfect for a race day meet or a wedding. The lightweight and breathable straw will keep you cool in the heat. Meanwhile, the soft green hue and intricate curls are just right for this time of year, while the feathers add structure to the design.
Gifting Information
I will send your hat in an ivory hat box, which I carefully pack with acid free tissue paper, and finish with a pink satin ribbon. Storing your hat in this tissue-filled box will keep it in tip top condition for many years to come.
Although I don’t offer gift wrap for these designs, I can add a gift message card if you are gifting from a distance.
