Red felt button hat with nautilus ribbon shells.
As with all my occasion hats, I make this elegant piece by hand, using traditional millinery techniques. For this particular hat, I have hand-blocked and almost entirely handsewn the piece, save for a small amount of machine stitching to the lining.
Meanwhile, I have used a couture millinery technique to create the intricate nautilus shell decorations. I chose two complimentary tones of red petersham ribbon to create the shells, which add a touch of vintage glamour to the piece.
The hat is fully lined with a coordinating wine red silk dupion, and trimmed with a matching red petersham ribbon.
Dimensions of Hat
- Width: approximately 17cm (6.5 inches)
- Height: approximately 4 cm (1.5 inches)
- Circumference: approximately 53cm (21 inches)
The nautilus shell decorations add approximately 2cm (0.75 inches) extra in height to the hat.
How to Wear this Hat
I have designed this red felt button hat with Nautilus shells so that it can be worn to the left or right of the head.
The hat is secured in place with an adjustable black elastic. This elastic is thin enough to be hidden in your hair, thereby creating the illusion that the hat is magically perched on the head.
Where to Wear this Hat
This hat would look fabulous at any formal occasion; from autumn, right through spring. And would bring a bit of old-school Hollywood glamour to any event; from a race day, to a wedding day.

I will send your red felt button hat with Nautilus shells in a white hat box carefully packed with acid free tissue paper, and finished with a pink satin ribbon. Storing your hat in this tissue-filled box will keep it in tip top condition for many years to come.
Although I don’t offer gift wrap for these designs, I can add a gift message card if you are gifting from a distance.

Authentic Craftmanship
These nautilus shells have been created using a complex technique, which was established in the 1950s by couture milliners.
This technique requires such skill that only a handful of milliners, including myself, are able to practice the technique today.
