Brown felt sloped hat, trimmed with ribbon fans and a large ribbon covered button.
This one of a kind hat has been made using a reclaimed vintage hat from the 1970s. The decoration has been deliberately kept to a minimum, allowing the glorious pile of the felt to be the star of the hat.
Melusine felt is known for it’s rich, lush long rabbit fur pile. This pile has been carefully brushed to create a glossy swirl, spiralling outwards from the centre of the hat.
As with all my occasion hats, I have made this hat by hand, using traditional millinery techniques. This particular hat is hand-blocked, and almost entirely handsewn, apart from a small amount of machine stitching to the lining.
The ribbon fans have been made by hand, using an intricate pleating technique. Each fan is made with traditional cotton millinery ribbon. I also made the large button by hand and it features a fabulous twisted centre.
To finish the piece, I fully lined the inside of the hat with mocha brown silk dupion, before trimming with a coordinating dark brown ribbon.

- Width: approximately 18cm (7 inches)
- Length: approximately 20cm (8 inches)
- Height: approximately 5 cm (2 inches)
Decoration: approximately 14 cm long (5.5 inches) and 6.5 cm at the widest point (2.5 inches)
How to Wear this Hat
I created this hat to be worn to the right of the head, so that it skims the wearer’s temple.
I have attached a black, adjustable elastic, which will fix the hat in place. This elastic is thin enough to be hidden in your hair, thereby creating the illusion that the hat is magically perched on the head.

This brown felt cocktail hat is perfect for all formal occasions, including race day meets and weddings. These rich shades of brown are perfect for teaming with tweeds in Spring, Autumn or Winter. Meanwhile, the shape of the hat keeps it looking classically elegant, with simple yet intriguing decoration.

I will send your piece in an ivory hat box, which I carefully pack with acid free tissue paper, and finish with a pink satin ribbon. Storing your hat in this tissue-filled box will keep it in tip top condition for many years to come.
Although I don’t offer gift wrap for these designs, I can add a gift message card if you are gifting from a distance.
