Natural straw button hat with a large navy blue and ivory ribbon rosette.
As with all my occasion hats, I have made this piece by hand, using traditional millinery techniques. The hat is hand-blocked and hand-sewn, except for a small amount of machine stitching on the lining.
When designing this piece, I chose to sit the straw over a layer of navy blue linen. I believe this layering enhances the beautiful open weave design of the straw. Meanwhile, I created the rosettes from petersham ribbon, finishing with a mother-of-pearl round button.
The hat is also fully lined inside with the same navy linen as I chose for the inlay. Finally I have trimmed the piece with a co-ordinating navy blue petersham ribbon.
Dimensions of Hat
- Diameter: approximately 17cm (6.5 inches)
- Height: approximately 4 cm (1.5 inches)
- Circumference: approximately 53cm (21 inches)
The navy and ivory rosette measures approximately 14cm (5.5 inches) in diameter.
How to Wear this Hat
This hat is designed to be worn to the right of the head to show off the detailing to maximum effect. The combination of a thin elastic with a small metal comb make it easy for you to secure the hat firmly in place.
Where to Wear this Hat
I created this piece with formal spring and summer events in mind. For example, this hat would be perfect for a race day, such as Acot, or for a summer wedding, as the lightweight and breathable straw will keep you cool in the heat.
I will send your piece in an ivory hat box, which I carefully pack with acid free tissue paper, and finish with a pink satin ribbon. Storing your hat in this tissue-filled box will keep it in tip top condition for many years to come.
Although I don’t offer gift wrap for these designs, I can add a gift message card if you are gifting from a distance.
Please do complete your message in the box above, especially if you’d like it to be delivered direct to the lucky lass. Don’t forget to say who it is a gift for…and importantly, who it is from!
Looking For Something a Little Different?
I created this Natural Straw Button Hat as a one-of-a-kind piece. However, I can use the design as inspiration for a bespoke order – creating something unique, tailored to your specifications. If you would like to discuss this option, please do drop me a message, and I will get back to you.
