Cream paper straw boater hat with velvet and organza orchid flowers.
I have made this lightweight piece by hand, using traditional millinery techniques. I used the hand-blocking method to create the boater’s distinctive shape. After this process was complete, all embellishments and trimmings were then handsewn, apart from a small amount of machine stitching to the brim.
I chose not to line this piece, but rather to simply trim the inside with a coordinating petersham ribbon.
This cream boater hat features a small oval crown and a medium brim.
- Hat Brim:
- Width (from edge to edge): approximately 26cm (10 inches)
- Width (from edge of crown to edge of brim): approximately 7cm (2.75 inches)
- Circumference: approximately 84cm (33 inches)
- Crown of Hat:
- Width (at widest point): approximately 12cm (4.75 inches)
- Length: approximately 13cm (5 inches)
- Height: approximately 4cm (1.5 inches)
- Circumference: approximately 41cm (16 inches)
How to Wear this Hat
I created this hat so that it can be worn to the right or left of the head.
The hat is secured in place by a black, adjustable elastic. This elastic is thin enough to be hidden in your hair, thereby creating the illusion that the hat is magically perched on the head.
Whether you are looking for a race day hat or a wedding day hat, this piece is a very wearable size and looks stunning worn with a rakish slant!
Where to Wear this Hat
I designed this cream boater, with its orchid flower embellishments, with formal spring and summer events in mind.
Indeed, this lightweight piece is perfect for the warmer months, with the brim providing shade (and style), whilst the straw offers breathability.
I will send your piece in an ivory hat box, which I carefully pack with acid free tissue paper, and finish with a pink satin ribbon. Storing your hat in this tissue-filled box will keep it in tip top condition for many years to come.
Although I don’t offer gift wrap for these designs, I can add a gift message card if you are gifting from a distance.
Please do complete your message in the box above, especially if you’d like it to be delivered direct to the lucky lass. Don’t forget to say who it is a gift for…and importantly, who it is from!
Looking For Something a Little Different?
I created this cream boater hat, with fabric orchid flowers, as a one-of-a-kind piece. However, I can use the design as inspiration for a bespoke order – creating something unique, tailored to your specifications. If you would like to discuss this option, please do drop me a message, and I will get back to you.
