Aqua blue paper straw boater hat with a coordinating petersham ribbon and crinoline knot.
As with all my occasion hats, I have made this piece by hand, using traditional millinery techniques. This particular hat is hand-blocked and almost entirely handsewn apart from the ribbon binding on the brim.
Made with a smooth woven paper straw, this hat features loops of crinoline secure with a knot in matching ribbon. I’ve used a vegan-friendly rayon and viscose mix petersham ribbon for both the decoration around the crown and the edge of the brim.
I have used simple folds in the ribbon and crinoline to create layers of texture in this monochrome design – making it perfect for matching with block colours as well as patterned outfits.
This hat is unlined and simply trimmed inside with a matching petersham ribbon.

How to Wear this Hat
I have designed this aqua blue boater hat so that it can be worn to the left or right of the head. I suggest wearing this piece at a rakish slant, to create a really stunning look.
The hat is secured in place by a dark brown elastic. This elastic is thin enough to be hidden in your hair, thereby creating the illusion that the hat is magically perched on the head.
Where to Wear this Hat
I designed this aqua blue boater hat with formal Spring and Summer events in mind. The hat’s medium oval crown, teamed with its mid-width brim, it would make an elegant statement at any race day or wedding.
This lightweight piece also offers a high degree of comfort as well as providing shade (and style). All round, this is a perfect hat for a hot Summer’s day!
I will send your boater hat in an ivory hat box. I carefully pack the box with acid free tissue paper, and finish with a pink satin ribbon. Storing your hat in this tissue-filled box will keep it in tip top condition for many years to come.
Although I don’t offer gift wrap for these designs, I can add a gift message card if you are gifting from a distance.
Please do complete your message in the box above, especially if you’d like it to be delivered direct to the lucky lass. Don’t forget to say who it is a gift for…and importantly, who it is from!
Looking For Something a Little Different?
I created this aqua blue paper boater hat, with it’s ribbon and crinoline knot, as a one-of-a-kind piece. However, I can use the design as inspiration for a bespoke order. If you would like me to create something unique, tailored to your specifications, please do drop me a message.
